| Other Sheep and Blue Diamond Society and Jesus MCC of Indianapolis, Indiana, Announce the Translation and Distribution of the book The Children Are Free in Nepali for Nepal. |
Sunil Pant (photo at left), the first openly gay Member of the Parliament of
Nepal, and founder and director of Blue Diamond Society, a Nepal LGBT
organization, in a conversation with Rev. Steve Parelli and Jose Ortiz, on July
2, 2009, in the area of Kathmandu, requested the translation of the book The
Children Are Free (TCAF) into Nepali and offered to have Blue Diamond
Society oversee the translation work.
Sunil explained the significance of having an alternate Christian viewpoint on
homosexuality expressed in Nepal. He stated that some Christian churches
are getting the message out that if a gay person converts from Hinduism to
Christianity he or she will be healed from homosexuality. One church has
televised this message as an appeal to gay Hindus to convert to Christianity.
The Children Are Free will demonstrate that the Christian faith does not
universally hold to the traditional teaching that homosexuality is rejected by
God. It is a significant message so that Christianity and Hinduism do not
become polarized at opposite ends on this social and religious issue.
In addition, Steve Parelli and Jose Ortiz can testify to their experience while in
Nepal that several conservative Christian pastors, educated in different
seminaries, often outside of Nepal, have an open mind and even a
predisposed attitude toward accepting sexual minorities. We would share
more specifically here if we could as to the openness of some pastors in
Nepal, but we cannot.
Blue Diamond Society has LGBT centers all throughout Nepal, and the
founder and director of Blue Diamond Society has initiated this translation
work and has an invested interest in the distribution of the book.
With Indira Ghale as the Other Sheep Coordinator for Nepal, we have an
Other Sheep contact person, experienced in activism in human rights for
LGBT people, who will be able to help, directly, in this project.
Other Sheep, Jesus MCC and Blue Diamond Society are working together to
complete this project.
