Der Reggeboge Freindschaft
|
The Rainbow Fellowship is an independent ministry in fellowship with Other Sheep
|
The name for this website or blog directly identifies a connection online
with any GLBT member of the Old Order or 'plain dressing' church
groups here in the Pennsylvania German Communities of South Eastern
PA.
I chose the words 'Der Reggeboge Freindschaft' due to their close
association with both a gay symbol and a common concept of
'belonging' within this community.
In English, this PA German name roughly translates to 'The Rainbow
Fellowship' entailing not only the scriptural promise of God's protection
from destruction and the familiarity of identifying with the broader gay
community, but also with the connection of belonging to an accepting
group of 'family-like' connectedness.
(English pronunciation is similar to the Biblical King Rehoboam’s name
and so is said like: Dah Ray-ah-boh-ah Fry-nd-shaw-ft)
People living in the 'plain-dressing' communities speak commonly of
their own particular order or religious group as being a 'Freindschaft'.
This word entails not only the physical family-like attributes of looking
similar, but also of thinking and living similar as well. So, this is an idea
of starting an effort of encouragement and testimony to the many GLBT
people currently living or coming OUT of the Pennsylvania German
ethnic and religious backgrounds associated with the Amish, Brethren,
Hutterite, Mennonite, and Quaker church groups.
